happy bday!
erm... actually the bday lady (there is another bday 'girl'), dun really wan to celebrate her bday. but well, its an extremely good excuse to meet/ catch up! its also a good excuse to shop (for bday gifts) also! well, we had some good food at middle road then we had some coffee at tcc...
the bday lady, old bones n char-lotti chilled out at hotel lobby accompanied by some live music. the way the performer sang was kinda dot.dot.dot, it tinkled me. well, it was unique!~
hee... nice to see everyone!
happy holidays. bon voyage. happy weddin. happy workin.
we were talkin abt theme restaurants in taiwan, esp the bewildering one with the 'toilet' theme... saw this comic while surfin net. they cld probably hav jacuzzi service too... eat/shit/spa/stink/digest the toilet way... then get flushed. hahs.

meet the robinsons
took a break off revision n watched Meet the Robinsons with rotengen, kickjazz, teelee, renoh and sassy. it was a pretty alright show. the kids were so well behaved, that i dun dare to laugh too loudly in the theatre. felt so supressed! the bad alignment of 'layers' in the 3D movie and black-out screen was, hmmm..., quite bad.
the show was interestin to me, for the fact that Louis has workin on some 'memory-machine'. it correlates to my plight of havin to rem tables of drug names n drug classes. haha. the thought of 'ya, i hav seem this somewhere, it should be hidden at some corners of my head'. how to activate that corner of my brain?!?! ha, will need lewis' machine for my exams!
the transdermal caffeine batch was pretty interestin too. the scientist havnt slept in 12 days, behaving so hyperactively and suffering from a slight loss of memory due to fatigue. yes, so true, overdose.
the lil boy lewis in the movie is so blessed to b talented and have found what he is passionate and good for. he is a natural inventor. though his streak affected his room-mate and his failed presentations of his prototypes left him 'rejected' by all his potential adopting parents, his talent and positive attitude made him excel at his science fair. (cause he knows he is no longer cute and under-13, he got to make sure he would not get rejected again.)
it was during that science fair that he met his parents that truly appreciates him. They sold their estate and bought a new area, they invested in Lewis with love and gave him room to cultivate his talent to become a great inventor!
its a fact that v few people realise their full potential in regards to wat they can do. lookin forward is excellent in itself. lookin at the wider picture and have foresight is even better!
talent is the key though.
so much for the afterthoughts of the show.
junie, charlotte n cfred joined us for dinner and ice-cream too. nice to see ya'll.
renoh and teelee looked so unwell the entire evenin. please take lotsa care.

i did badly.
i wasnt working hard.
its hard to face it. (kinda)
esp when u put it up in ur blog n ur friends sees it.
but i hav to be honest to myself anyway.
i need to review my workout goals.
more short term.
or jus treat this blog as a normal 'events diary', not a 'log book'.
less mind bogglin.
i am goin to overload up my course and graduate at the end of this year.
would hav much lesser time to visit the gym anyway too.
change.
sad.
thats life.
get some, lose some.
*hope i will not gain more weight though! it'll b nightmare!

singapore biathlon + pursuit of happyness
when to support the sgrunners at ecp, cos i was so touched that some of them was arround during my nusbi, esp grateful for them who gave me advices/ offered to train with me before the race.
feelin quite proud of this pic i took! wahahaha...
feelin quite proud of this pic i took! wahahaha...
the movie 'pursuit of happyness' was not too bad, a bit intense as i left the theatre with a slight headache. its really depressin when basic needs of life are not met, no place to stay, no food to eat, no place to bath, no money to pay basic taxes. but that doesnt mean that we should not have ambitions durin bleak moments, somehow, ambitions can become new hope for us to look forward to.
the context of the movie was in late 1980s america... the title of the movie was taken from the US Declaration of Independence. 'Life, liberity and the pursuit of happiness'. America did not guarantee happiness, but she legislate the pursuit of it. Does the pursuit of happiness give people the rights to be unhappy?
the root word of happiness comes from the middle english and old norse happ, which means chance and fortune (also the root word for happenstance, haphazard and perhaps).
french bonheur derives from bon(good) and heur(fortune/luck)
german gluck means happiness and luck
italian felicita, spanish felicidad, portuguese felicidade all derives from the latin word felix, which means luck or fate.
chance and luck seems to be more uncertain as compared to destiny and fortune.
so wat is happiness?
happiness couldnt be defined, but its culturely and politically bound. even in a restricted boundary, variations exists! Comparing America to Bhutan, where Gross National Happiness (GNH) is more important than Gross National Product, they are two contradictory stories in public policy making. Can read/ see pics about them .:here:.
cant help but brought out some article clippings i kept from the past.
- http://www.time.com/time/2005/happiness/ (glad to hav found the archive online to share!)
- The Sunday Times, May 7th, 2006 ( 'The Economics of Happiness' & 'The Pursuit of Unhappiness')
-some article on 'Science of Happy Marriage'
Is Happiness measurable? Attempts to study and measure it can only satisfy our curiosity. Happiness does add value in a way which make us more productive. A good link to go to view videos that attempts to define the formula to define happiness .:link:.
well, for me its to trust>a sense of direction>motivation>satisfied/ unsatisfied needs>sustained motivation>achievable goals>ability to share/care>relationship building>more trust>greater ability to share... its like the virtuous cycle for me. Happiness is my motivation for now.
From the New Science of Happiness (could be found from link above), the 8 steps to a more satisfyin life.
- Count my blessings
- Practice acts of kindness
- Savour life's joy
- Thank a mentor
- Learn to forgive
- Invest time and energy in friends and family
- Take care of my body
- Develop strategies for copin with stress and hardships
well. I am thankful for having a simple life and some wonderful company of friends who shared their lives with me...
roonz, roentgen, kickjazzy, charlotte, loneshark, teelee, renoh, sassy, cfred, tiwazz, cokiee and many more...
Okok... Enough blogging. Got to do my report again....

nusbiathlon07
wah!
i'd finished the race...
it was a good experience swimmin in the sea! i was thinkin if anything would happen to me or why did i trust the organizers to take care of my safety. needless to say, the doubts are unfound. i am still one-same-old-piece-of an angelica.
how often does a sheltered girl like me swim in the SEA?
thinking back, it was SHIOK.
thinking back, it was SHIOK.
i took a few gulps of saline solution at some water points in east coast waters. breath in probably 1000cm^3 of exhaust fart from the speed boats and bouyanced along with the choppy waves.
frankly speaking, i was takin my time to complete the race.
dunno what kind of attitude i have... i wondered if its good.
i reckon i am too easily contented and relaxed, i dun mind not winnin.
actually, i dun even feel like winning.
i just what to enjoy the experience and i was easily distracted.
but its not necessarily a bad thing.
i must admit i felt a pinch of guilt when teelee, cfred n cokiee come shoutin at me to keep runnin.
it was kinda 'wah sianzzz', though i was appreciating them sosoosoosooo much! thanks!
and frankly speaking, #2, i am amazed at how the sgrunners are willing to be there at the endpoint. i am v thankful to hav such a bunch of accomodating friends. it was nice to see tiwazz, mr n mrs sotong, roonz, teelee, cfred, sassy, cokiee, ripley, sv, jordan...
i always look forward to the meal after a race.
(all my buddies knows how to bike, i was jus posing with SV's v chio bike...)
familiar faces makes everything seem less foreign! turkish food!
(a very artistic picture made by teelee)
what's next?
-----------------------------------
'preparations' i had before this event:
-swim 30laps (1hr)
-run at cbd run (8-10km)
-run in the gym (5km)
for about 2 mths.

starch
there's a difference in the speed of energy release for the different type of starch...
fast releasing:
sugar, cakes, bread
slow releasing:
spagetti, rice
slow releasing starch can substain us throughout the day, while the fast releasing ones make us feel hungry faster...
truth or myth?

huge bowls of cheng tng
went to biopolis in the early afternoon, its really a very nice place...
reached dover at 2.30pm! waaayyy too early...
called roonz and searched for a nice place to read...
found koufu kopitiam, got an empty, clean table n started to read...
time passed really fast...
roonz called at about 430pm... it started to rain~!
i brought her to the same kopitiam, where she got her cup of cheng tng, and me, teh si...
we chit chat n scanned through her year book... hahas... spotted some common friends...
fortunately, at 6pm, the rain stopped and we proceed to the track...
had some probs findin the toilet... *cross-eyed fools... duhh~*
did some warm up and started our jog on the track...
tiwazz arrived shortly... and began his stretchin and runnin on the track barefooted... hmm, must b v comfortable, like massage! then he wore his shoes and started his jog... while roonz and me continued our jog at chit-chat pace...
we did some 13 rounds, alternatin directions on the track.
tiwazz suggest i shld cross train
swim 30 laps in the pool or run 5km 5 times a week...
*okok...., erm...., hmmmm....*
accordin to plan, we r supposed to go commonwealth for cheng tng!
naive me suggested to walk *ahem* there, without actually knowin the actual distance.
end up walkin for 45++ mins from sp to commonwealth!!!
figured we could burn more fats and save transportation fees to buy another bowl of cheng tng!
reached block117 near commonwealth mrt and bought myself a sinful fried chicken wing (must taste mah, famous leh)...
had two bowls of dessert! one bowl of cheng tng and another bowl of ice kachang!...
and for main course, i had economic fried noodles, taukua and cabbage...
the chilli they serve is not too bad, pretty fresh red in colour, less burnt than the usual nasi lemak chilli i had. sweetness was suffice, could b less.
i DO eat alot. i am not lying!
wahahha... but was guilt-free, at least i did run/ walk!!

velocity
met up wif roonz to gai gai at velocity, novena...
the place is pretty fine, with it's new extension of sporting stores... we 'parked' ourselves at runnin lab talkin to the shop assistant about shoes! saw some shoes with thick 'rocking soles', made to correct the posteur of its user.
took interest in a 'security alarm' and some tiny crocs sandles. for females who prefer to run at night, the very loud n irritatin alarm can scare whoever who tries to hurt u! i though the miniature crocs sandles r really suitable for plantin some greens in the office!!
then we went shoppin at adidas and mph bookstore. the adidas stella mcCartney collection is really very stylish, but still a bit costly after 50% discount. should take a look at their website. they hav v shwee models!!!
then there was ice-skating performance! both the male and female skaters bought me to wonderland! skatin to mariah carey's 'all i want for xmas is u' and lou bega's 'mambo no 5'... kekeke... *v xmasy~~

candy cane!
i always wonder why it is shaped like an old man's walking stick... until i read abt the story of the candy cane.
once, there was a candymaker who wanted to make candy that would remind people of the true meaning of christmas. he began with a stick of pure white, hard candy.
white to represent the sinless nature of Jesus.
hardness to symbolizes the Solid rock, the foundation of the Church.
the candymaker then shaped the cane into a letter 'J' to represent the name of Jesus, our saviour. and when it is turned over, it represented the staff of the Good Shepherd, with which he reclaims us.
to add colours to the candy, he added 3 small stripes to show the lashes Jesus received.he also added 1 large red stripe for the blood shed by Christ on the cross, so that we could hav the promise of eternal life.

Happy hatch-day benny
well, the adirunners gathered at lau pa sat on monday to hav a makan session.
brokie and her two cute boys, DO, dream, bev, superboy, cfred, stazla, dasher, cokiee, fennel, zheng, fahmy & gf, n another guy whose name i failed to rem, were there...
they had bbq chicken wings, popiah, fried mee siam, bbq fish, satay and all the yummy food on the table! food again... oh noooo...
i got my korean kim chi noodles, hot and spicy... great!
after which, DR&bev shared a bowl of korean noodles with some seafood and DO had his bibim bap (rice with assorted vege, sesame oil/ seeds, dried seaweed and chilli paste for taste)...
then it was benny's bday celebration! the ceremonial bday song and mango cake! presented him with his bday prezzie... a running tee! hope u like the tee benny, failed to irritate u enuff to mak u leak out wat u wan... :(

there was a lengthy discusssion about marketin... or more abt 'where' adirunners are headin to... still vague though.
Stop stoning and complaining about my terrible scsm results and weight.
I only got MYSELF to blame for being such a glutton n so-not-running.
