feelin quite proud of this pic i took! wahahaha...
the movie 'pursuit of happyness' was not too bad, a bit intense as i left the theatre with a slight headache. its really depressin when basic needs of life are not met, no place to stay, no food to eat, no place to bath, no money to pay basic taxes. but that doesnt mean that we should not have ambitions durin bleak moments, somehow, ambitions can become new hope for us to look forward to.
the context of the movie was in late 1980s america... the title of the movie was taken from the US Declaration of Independence. 'Life, liberity and the pursuit of happiness'. America did not guarantee happiness, but she legislate the pursuit of it. Does the pursuit of happiness give people the rights to be unhappy?
the root word of happiness comes from the middle english and old norse happ, which means chance and fortune (also the root word for happenstance, haphazard and perhaps).
french bonheur derives from bon(good) and heur(fortune/luck)
german gluck means happiness and luck
italian felicita, spanish felicidad, portuguese felicidade all derives from the latin word felix, which means luck or fate.
chance and luck seems to be more uncertain as compared to destiny and fortune.
so wat is happiness?
happiness couldnt be defined, but its culturely and politically bound. even in a restricted boundary, variations exists! Comparing America to Bhutan, where Gross National Happiness (GNH) is more important than Gross National Product, they are two contradictory stories in public policy making. Can read/ see pics about them .:here:.
cant help but brought out some article clippings i kept from the past.
- http://www.time.com/time/2005/happiness/ (glad to hav found the archive online to share!)
- The Sunday Times, May 7th, 2006 ( 'The Economics of Happiness' & 'The Pursuit of Unhappiness')
-some article on 'Science of Happy Marriage'
Is Happiness measurable? Attempts to study and measure it can only satisfy our curiosity. Happiness does add value in a way which make us more productive. A good link to go to view videos that attempts to define the formula to define happiness .:link:.
well, for me its to trust>a sense of direction>motivation>satisfied/ unsatisfied needs>sustained motivation>achievable goals>ability to share/care>relationship building>more trust>greater ability to share... its like the virtuous cycle for me. Happiness is my motivation for now.
From the New Science of Happiness (could be found from link above), the 8 steps to a more satisfyin life.
